Deptford Literature Festival At Home 2023
There are lots of ways you can take part in Deptford Literature Festival from home – from online writing prompts and exercises you can do in your own time, to tuning in to the Festival livestreams on the day.
Writing prompts + activities
Writers and artists Laurie Bolger, Khairani Barokka, Nadine Matheson and Tice Cin have created writing activities for you to do in your own space and time, based on their workshops and events at the Festival. Get into the Deptford Literature Festival spirit with this set of brilliant exercises and activities by these brilliant writers and artists.
Additionally, Festival writers Tice Cin and Carinya Sharples have made short captioned films with writing exercises you can do at home in your own time.
Inspired by her Festival event on creative conversations in Lewisham, Carinya shares exercises, a reading from her work, and offers tips and resources to connect to other writers local to you.
Tice shares a range of writing exercises inspired by themes of food and place, the focus of her festival event, and gives a reading from her novel, Keeping the House.
‘Woodwork Instruction Manual’ – a film by young people
Do take some time to watch this wonderful short film of imagination, dreams and hope – ‘Woodwork Instruction Manual’ – created by young people from Woodpecker Youth Club in Deptford, working with artists Kobi Essah Ayensuo and Mmoloki Chrystie.
The film has been made in partnership with Youth First and funded by the St James’s Place Foundation.
