Deptford Literature Festival takes place on Saturday 16 March 2024, with a special launch event on Friday 15 March, and celebrates the diversity and creativity of Deptford and Lewisham through words, stories and performance.

Featuring workshops, talks, audio tours, performances and more, the Festival’s extensive programme invites you to explore what literature means to us here in Deptford today.

Workshops are open to writers of all levels, from beginners to advanced. So come along, check out the local literary scene, and get involved – book your tickets here!

New for 2024, we’re excited to launch the Deptford Literature Festival Magazine, featuring specially commissioned new work by local writers and artists, inspired by Deptford and Lewisham. Copies of the magazine will be available to pick up for free on the day, just head to the Marketplace in the foyer of Deptford Lounge.

For our younger festival goers, there’s a special programme of activities for children and families. See how you can get involved, here.

Deptford Literature Festival’s online programme offers a number of livestream and online only events on the day of the festival, as well as our ‘streamed as live’ recorded events available from Sunday 17 March. All online events are captioned.

Lewisham Borough of Literature

Spread the Word has a big, bold vision to see Lewisham declared as the UK’s first Borough of Literature. On 16 March, we are launching a campaign on to bring this to life! We want the Borough of Literature to involve all of Lewisham’s community, from school children to elders, community groups to businesses, open green spaces to public buildings. Whoever and wherever, we would like you to be involved. Come and talk to us at the Festival Marketplace.

Accessibility at Deptford Literature Festival

We want to ensure as many people of Deptford, Lewisham and beyond can access as much of the Festival as possible. All in-person festival events will be BSL interpreted and online events will be captioned, with 33 out of 34 events free to attend. There are a number of free places available to Lewisham residents for soft soft, our priced launch event at The Albany on Friday 15 March, find out how to access these here

Festival venues are wheelchair accessible, with accessible toilets. A quiet space is available during the day at Deptford Lounge, in the Music Room, on the first floor. Deptford Lounge also has Changing Place facilities and an induction loop, and assistance dogs are welcome. For more information: deptfordlounge.org.uk/access

We’re so excited to welcome you to this year’s festival – see you there!
