Introduction to Crime Fiction: How to Write Quality Crime Fiction with Characters That Leave a Lasting Impression with Saima Mir
Deciding to write crime fiction can be a daunting task. You need a strong hook, characters that leave an impression, and of course there is the small matter of the ‘the crime.’ During the process, writers can sometimes lose sight of the actual story as they attempt to thicken their plot and add twists and turns to keep readers guessing.
In this course you will learn about my approach to writing genre-busting crime fiction for readers of the genre, and for the wider literary world. Crime readers are savvy, and aware of the twists and turns employed by writers of the genre. They also enjoy learning something new whilst being entertained.
We will discuss pinning down your story, cooking up characters with depth, developing structure, and nailing that first draft. The course is designed for you to do at your own pace. You do not need to share work, or ‘turn up’ to an event.
This writing course will be delivered via e-mail using Mailchimp.
You’ll receive five emails on the following dates:
Introductory Email – Thursday 7 October 2021
Course Email 1 – Thursday 14 October
Course Email 2 – Thursday 21 October
Course Email 3 – Thursday 28 October
Course Email 4 – Thursday 4 November
This course is designed with creativity and accessibility at its heart; it is free to take part in, optimised for screen reading, and includes transcriptions and audio descriptions of music.
If you know someone who would like to take part who doesn’t have a computer or internet access, you can contact us and we can print and post the courses (UK only).
